Banbury

Historic Banbury is famed for many things, namely its cakes, the nursery rhyme “Ride a Cock Horse” and the Oxford Canal.

However, as well as all this, it is a thriving town in North Oxfordshire with lots more to offer its visitors with nearby Broughton Castle providing a stunning backdrop in many films, such as “Shakespeare in Love”.

The Banbury cakes, made from fruit and pastry are still hugely popular and can be found on sale throughout North Oxfordshire as well as in Banbury Tourist Information Centre. These yummy treats are certainly worth a try! You can even enjoy them while you explore the town and admire the ‘Fine Lady Upon a White Horse’ statue immortilizing the Banbury nursery rhyme.

Then you can take a ride in a narrowboat down the Oxford Canal, visit Banbury Museum Tooleys Boat Yard and discover the town's rich history. After this, delve into the local shops or the brilliant Castle Quay Shopping Centre and shop ‘til you drop! Featuring all the leading high street stores, its own restaurants and free wheelchair and scooter loan from a Shopmobility Unit, it is also located right besides the Oxford canal.
